Lash Retention and Lash Growth: What Every Spa Guest Should Know

Hey baddie! When it comes to lash extensions, two key terms often come up: lash retention and lash growth.

Understanding these concepts can help you care for your lashes better and ensure you get the most out of your lash extension appointments.

At VIORÉ, we prioritize educating our guests about maintaining healthy, beautiful lashes, so let’s dive in!

What Is Lash Retention?

Lash retention refers to how long your lash extensions stay in place before needing a fill or replacement.

Good retention means you have at least 50% or most of your lash line still with lash extensions attached, while poor retention means you have less than 50% and more lash shed/less extensions still attached.

Retention depends on several factors:

  1. Application Technique: Proper isolation and adhesive use are crucial. At VIORÉ, our lash artists are trained to apply extensions with precision to maximize retention. With over 5+ Certifications in Lash Extension application we are trained to work on each eye/eye shape.

  2. Adhesive Quality: The type of lash adhesive and its compatibility with your natural lashes play a big role. We use high-quality adhesives that ensure durability and safety. Our products were curated by our Lead Licensed Esthetician and Founder Desiree'. Our Consultation form will allow us to choose the best adhesive for you!

  3. Aftercare: How you care for your lashes post-appointment matters. Following our aftercare tips will help extend the life of your extensions. We have aftercare items in store for you to purchase to have the most long lasting application possible.

  4. Lifestyle Factors: Activities like swimming, working out, or using oily skincare products can weaken the adhesive bond. Our TOPCOAT Sealant is perfect for the active ladies!

How to Improve Lash Retention:

  • Avoid excessive oils, touching of lashes, and or excessive hair/facial products.

  • Cleanse your lashes and skin around your lashes/eyelid daily to prevent infection. Use your microfiber wand and spoolies to get in between lash fibers. Please focus on the base of the lash extensions and gently brush.

  • Brush your lashes daily to loosen all dirt and debris to prepare for cleaning your lash extensions.

  • Avoid rubbing, pulling, or sleeping directly on your lashes

What Is Lash Growth?

Lash growth refers to the natural cycle of your lashes as they grow, rest, and shed. Just like the hair on your head, your eyelashes follow a cycle:

  1. Anagen Phase (Growth): This is the active growth phase when your lashes are forming

  2. Catagen Phase (Transition): During this phase, your lashes stop growing, and the hair follicle shrinks

  3. Telogen Phase (Resting): This is the final phase, where your lash rests before naturally shedding to make way for a new lash to grow

Since lash extensions are attached to your natural lashes, they will shed along with them during the telogen phase. This is completely normal!

Lash Retention and Lash Growth: Working Together

To maintain full, beautiful lashes, it’s essential to balance good retention practices with understanding your natural lash cycle. Here are some tips to keep your natural lashes healthy while enjoying extensions:

  • Hydrate and Nourish: Use a lash serum to condition and strengthen your natural lashes. Look for ingredients like biotin and peptides.

  • Regular Fills: Schedule fills every 2-3 weeks to keep your extensions looking fresh and full. If your fills are able to go longer, you will be advised by your Licensed Professional

  • Healthy Lifestyle: A balanced diet rich in vitamins (like A, C, and E) promotes healthy lash growth.

  • Gentle Care: Treat your lashes with care to prevent unnecessary shedding or damage. You're a BADDIE! Don't ever forget it!

Whether you’re new to lash extensions or a seasoned pro, our team is here to guide you every step of the way. Your lash maintenance is how you stay low maintenance! So don't forget to schedule it!
